The mission of the Riversharks Swim Team is to promote the sport of swimming by helping team members learn the skills, techniques and attitudes required to be successful in swimming as well as in life.
The Riversharks Swim Team is part of the CENKEY Swim League. Practices begin in October and the regular swim season ends in February. Swimmers who qualify for districts and states will compete through March.
Practice will begin on October 12 at 6:00 pm for returning swimmers. Practice is held Monday through Thursday at CUP Tippin Natatorium at 6 pm. The number of days the swimmer attends practice is determined by the swimmer/parents in conjunction with the coach. The length of the practice will be determined by the coach based on the ability of the swimmer. Ability groupings are not permanent. Swimmers are moved regularly as they learn.
New swimmers must try out for the team. Swimmers may be asked to swim some of the strokes, dive, or streamline to find out what he/she knows. Swimmers who are accepted on the team may attend practices on a trial basis through October 22. CLICK HERE for a try-out schedule and additional information.
Stroke Clinics will be held twice a month on Fridays from 6-7 pm. These are not endurance practices. Clinics help swimmers learn and correct technique such as strokes, diving, streamlines, and turns.

The Clarion County YMCA Riversharks Swim Team was formed in 2013 with a small group of swimmers who desired to continue their competitive swim training in Clarion County. With the Clarion County YMCA behind the program, the team grew to 70 swimmers. In March of 2016, under the direction of Coach Derek Nelson, the Clarion County YMCA Riversharks saw unparalleled success by qualifying 19 swimmers at the Pennsylvania YMCA District level and qualifying five swimmers at the Pennsylvania YMCA State level.
The Clarion County YMCA is the only YMCA in the CENKEY League to offer a full developmental learning program to new swimmers. This program allows the swimmer to learn strokes, dives and turns before joining the rigorous practices of the experienced swimmer. Developmental swimmers are full members of the swim team and take part in competitions, nightly practices and social events along with the entire team.
